Mystic Aquarium Wedding

Weddings

This wedding at Mystic Aquarium has to be one of my all-time favorites, due to the sheer fun factor of the venue and this particular couple! I mean, for reallllll…a Beluga Whale who splashes the bridal party?! Pretty sure you’re going to love their story as much as I do. Huge thanks to my second shooter for the day, Jesse from On Point Images.

How we Met: “We were in geography club together in college and found a common love of Doctor Who and travel. We very quickly bonded and have been best friends ever since!”

The Proposal: “It was a massive surprise! We were on a trip to Disney World and it turns out he was plotting this entire thing for months before hand without me knowing! We were at Magic Kingdom and he pulled us (myself and his two friends WHO WERE ALSO in on it) over to Cinderella’s wishing well next to the castle. He gave me a coin and told me to turn around and make a wish. I closed my eyes and threw the coin over my shoulder into the well and when I opened my eyes he was down on one knee! I was BEYOND shocked. I think I just stood there in shock for a few seconds before I said YES!”

Venue: “We choose Mystic Aquarium for the venue because we have a mutual love for the ocean and specifically conservation. Mystic is a conservation driven institution so naturally it was our first choice. We wanted to be able to share with everyone we love the amazing things Mystic Aquarium does!”

Details: “Our THEME if we had to choose was sustainability/ethics. We both have a lot of background in both and for us this being central to our wedding was of the greatest importance. My engagement ring is made of recycled metal and ethically sourced/ fair trade gemstones. Our wedding rings are made of recycled metal and resemble birch bark, a tribute to our favorite country, and where we someday hope to live, Iceland. Our flowers were exclusively things that were grown LOCALLY IN SEASON (not imported from other countries). Our outfits for the wedding were both handcrafted in Vermont by Tara Lynn (Tara Lynn Bridal) made of sustainable hemp, cotton, and silk fabrics. We also made the very deliberate choice of using TOMS shoes for ourselves (and my bridesmaids) because the shoes are ethically produced and for each pair purchased TOMS donates a pair to someone in need of shoes! Of course to explain my shoes (the bees), I have an undying love for bees, I would love to someday have my own hives. They are fantastic little producers and I do everything in my power to teach people what incredible insects they are!”
