If you’re dreaming of getting married in New York City, you are in very good company. NYC elopements are some of my absolute favorites to photograph! The city is endlessly photogenic, romantic, and honestly…kind of made for love stories. Whether you’re envisioning a quiet ceremony in Central Park or something a little more editorial with the skyline as your backdrop, there is no shortage of incredible NYC elopement locations to choose from.
As a NYC elopement photographer, I’m always so happy to share what I know with couples planning their own elopement. Today I’m breaking down 10 of my favorite places to elope in NYC to help you find the perfect location for your day!

New York Public Library
The New York Public Library is an absolute dream elopement spot with grand marble columns, soaring ceilings, and that unmistakably classic New York energy. The neutral tones and stunning Beaux-Arts architecture look beautiful in photos year-round, with no foliage or flowers needed. It’s also incredibly well-located for out-of-town couples, sitting right at the corner of 5th Avenue and 42nd Street in Midtown, just steps from Grand Central Terminal, making it easy to travel in and out of the city without the stress of traffic.
For elopements, ceremonies typically take place on the iconic front steps and facade. The covered entrance area is actually sheltered from the elements, making it a surprisingly solid rainy-day option, too!
Good to know: Tourists will definitely be on-site, but true New Yorkers won’t bat an eye, and more often than not, strangers end up cheering you on! A photographic permit is required, which can be obtained through the New York Public Library’s event services. Fees vary depending on the specifics of your event.

Gapstow Bridge
This charming stone bridge in the southeast corner of Central Park near 5th Avenue and 59th Street is one of the most underrated elopement spots in the city. The Bridge offers semi-private waterfront views and a surprisingly epic Manhattan skyline backdrop, with the iconic Plaza Hotel visible right from the bridge. And for movie buffs — yes, this is the bridge from Home Alone 2, where Kevin first meets the Pigeon Lady!
Good to know: If you’re hoping for cherry blossom photos, Gapstow Bridge is a fantastic choice in April when the surrounding trees are in full bloom. It’s one of my top recommendations for spring elopements in Central Park. Its proximity to The Plaza also makes it a great pairing if you’re staying or getting ready there!

Ladies Pavilion
Tucked on the Upper West Side of Central Park, the Ladies Pavilion is one of the most private ceremony spots in the entire park, and it has a covered roof, which makes it a genuinely great option if there’s a chance of rain on your wedding day. There are two small benches built right into the pavilion for seating a handful of guests, and the surrounding Central Park pathways offer endless portrait opportunities just steps away. It’s also close to the street, so getting there via subway or car is simple.
Good to know: This spot is popular and can book up quickly, so if you have your heart set on Ladies Pavilion, plan ahead!

Bethesda Fountain and Terrace
Bethesda Terrace is one of the most architecturally stunning spots in all of New York City… and it happens to be right in the heart of Central Park. The ornate Minton-tiled ceilings, arched walkways, and iconic fountain make for photos that feel almost European in their grandeur. It’s been a backdrop for films ranging from The Avengers to John Wick and everything in between. It’s a popular spot with tourists, but there are plenty of tucked-away corners and angles that give you privacy even on a busy day.
Good to know: This is my top recommendation for rainy-day elopements in Central Park. The covered terrace means you’re sheltered no matter the weather. It photographs beautifully in every season, making it a great choice for winter and early spring elopements, too.

Treehouse for Dreaming
Located on the Upper East Side of Central Park, Treehouse for Dreaming is a beautiful, more intimate alternative to Cop Cot. It’s backlit with gorgeous warm light throughout the afternoon — seriously dreamy for portraits — and it’s conveniently close to the street for easy access via subway or car. It’s also a short walk to Bethesda Terrace and Fountain, so you can easily combine both locations in one session for a variety of backdrops.
Good to know: If you want something a little more tucked away and intimate than Cop Cot, this is your spot.

Cop Cot
This large outdoor gazebo in the southeast corner of Central Park is one of the most popular locations for elopement ceremonies in the city. It has built-in seating for guests, a semi-skyline view peeking through the trees, and is very close to The Plaza Hotel, making it a natural pairing if you’re staying nearby. It’s larger than Treehouse for Dreaming, so it works well if you have a small group joining your ceremony.
Good to know: The Plaza Hotel is right around the corner, which is a great option for getting ready, staying the night, or celebrating after the ceremony!

Bow Bridge
The Central Park Conservancy calls Bow Bridge one of the city’s most romantic settings… and honestly, it’s hard to argue. This elegant cast-iron bridge stretches sixty feet over the Lake, and the golden hour light here in the late afternoon is absolutely magical, with the Manhattan skyline glowing in the background. It has appeared in countless films over the years, including Spider-Man 3! It’s located a short walk from Bethesda Fountain and Terrace, so the two pair beautifully together for your elopement day.
Good to know: Tourists are around in almost every season, but the views are well worth it. Fall foliage around the bridge is absolutely stunning if an autumn elopement is on your radar.

Hotel Chelsea
For the couple who wants something a little more rock-and-roll in their romance… Hotel Chelsea is calling your name. This iconic NYC hotel, steeped in artistic history, has a moody, eclectic energy, wrought-iron balconies overlooking the street, and a suite option where you can hold a private ceremony right on the balcony, with the city buzzing below. The editorial possibilities here are unlike anywhere else on this list.
In October 2025, Carly Rae Jepsen married her husband, Cole M.G.N., in an intimate ceremony in the hotel’s iconic Bard Room. And yes, there is a pizza spot literally on the corner, which makes for the most perfect post-ceremony celebration.
Good to know: Hotel permission is required for balcony ceremonies and suite photos. Photography is not permitted in the hotel’s public areas without additional permission and a fee, so plan ahead!

Brooklyn Bridge Park (DUMBO)
If a sweeping skyline backdrop is what you’re after, Brooklyn Bridge Park in DUMBO is hard to beat. Located along the East River in Brooklyn, directly beneath the Brooklyn Bridge, this spot offers some of the most dramatic city views in all of New York. The promenade, the waterfront, the iconic bridge overhead… and Jane’s Carousel right on-site for a fun, colorful photo op. It’s especially stunning at night when the city lights up — and a vintage cab ride through the streets of NYC afterward makes for the most perfect evening.
Good to know: This location pairs beautifully with a night photography session. The Brooklyn skyline and bridge at blue hour is absolutely a chef’s kiss.

Top of the Rock
For a truly unforgettable NYC elopement, nothing quite compares to saying your vows at the top of Rockefeller Center with the entire Manhattan skyline stretching out below you. It requires a bit of advance planning — I recommend securing Express Passes ahead of time to skip the line — and I highly suggest getting tickets that include The Beam experience at dusk, because the nighttime city views from up there are absolutely spectacular.
Good to know: This one takes a little more coordination, but the payoff is unreal. It’s also completely season-neutral, since the views are just as breathtaking in January as they are in July, making it one of my top picks for winter elopements in the city.

Tips for Planning Your NYC Elopement
A few things I always share with couples who are planning to elope in the city…
- Choose a hotel close to your ceremony location. NYC traffic is no joke, and being able to walk or take a quick subway ride to your ceremony spot will make your whole day so much more relaxed. Each location above has good transit access, so do a little research on nearby hotels before you book.
- Season matters more than you think. Cherry blossoms? Plan for April near Gapstow Bridge or the UES (Upper East Side). Fall foliage? Bow Bridge in October is amazing. Eloping in early spring or winter? Lean toward season-neutral spots like the New York Public Library steps, Bethesda Terrace, Hotel Chelsea, or Top of the Rock — all of which photograph beautifully no matter the time of year.
- Have a rainy day plan. If there’s a chance of rain, Bethesda Terrace, the Ladies Pavilion, and the New York Public Library all have covered options.
- Add something fun after the ceremony. Grab a slice of pizza, take a vintage Checker cab through the streets of NYC, do a rooftop bar visit for night views, or just wander through the city in your wedding clothes. Some of my favorite photos happen after the ceremony when couples are just enjoying the city together…
- Always make sure to check what permits are required for your elopement in NYC!
- NYC is beautifully and proudly LGBTQ+ friendly. Every couple is welcome here. 🏳️🌈
